Interests of the citizens who own the bandwidth: Citizenry of the United States of America and they include: 3 aspects of net-neutrality, build-out of fiber-optics, 10% of the gross revenues and bandwidth contribution to a completely non-commercial Public Information System, Continued Public Access to the Airwaves, and rate regulation. verses The [5] Telcom and corporate-media VOICES.
The same guys who SOLD your calls and information to the government and data miners are currently carpeting Des Moines with love of our legislators and the IOWA legislative funnel process. Media CEO's pay themselves 400 times that of their workers [only 100-times that of Katie Curric]. The headlines should read "Telcoms are carpeting state with money" but they do not. That same amazing bankroll may be ours: but it is not meant for us.
|
Telcoms brought it to the table; but it can just as easly turn around on them if only 5 persons in each county would agree that in a post 911 environment we require for our safety and convenince of Telcoms a contribution equal to that of the current co-ax services in support of the public debate. Ask DISH to provied 3 spaces for regional PATV slice so that Citizens may exercise their constitutional francise to have a public dialog plenyful with ideas and void of commmercialisms.
APATHY- Allows Telecoms to charge, charge, and re-charge Iowans for fiber-optic build out [5 times-over] and thumb their nose at providing such a modicum of bandwidth and support for Citizen Media. Horse-hockey! Telcom's claim record profits quarterly: in 10 years less than 3% of fiber-optic network in Iowa has been completed. Slow, de-regulated and dismissive Corporate behavior of the last decade is nothing less than a denial of basic justice, social values and ethical business standards. The press is the only vocation with its own constitutional amendment; if investigative information is not supported: we let loose the reigns of freedom.

Truth in Advertising/Fainess Doctrine

Before the 1996 repeal gave Local authority dentures: renegade corprotate behavior was dealt with severely. Efforts should now be made at the community level to maintain local control of their service. Iowans ought to keep pace with the rest of the world. After all, we invented the internet (see Anderson-Berry Computer: ABC Ames/Iowa City) and ironically at the dawn of the 21st Century the United States ranks 21st among nations communications infrastructure. Should we at least keep Iowa among the top half of the states?

All persons have a right to information in a democracy
The speed and clarity of net-neutral fiber-optic information will allow the world a stage in our livingrooms. Every man, woman and child a journalist able to speak their minds and participate today in the democracy only dreamed of at the beginning of this "Grande Experiment" 250 years ago.
A net-neutral information-age can [or at least try to] make of us a global family able to resolve issues peacefully; like all the good books say!

As Iowans meet with prospective presidential cannidates

"Let the press and pulpit proclaim the Gospel of truth and justice against the war now being made upon the poor. Let the American people cultivate kindness and humanity. Let the organic law of the land be honestly sustained and obeyed and allow for an information service to investigate and journalize not sensationalize. let a corporate price be paid to let the truth be told."

Let us envision a better world.

If the world’s population could be compressed into a village of 100 people, the village would look like this: * 57 would be of Asian descent * 21 would be of European descent * 14 would be living in North and South America * 8 would be of African descent * 80 would live in substandard housing * 70 would be people of color * 70 would be non-Christian * 70 will not be able to read * 50 percent of the village’s wealth would be owned by six people-all from the United States * 1 would have a college education and half would be waiting to make their first phone call.

Media in America is literally a free license to print money granted by the FCC in return for in-depth investigative and journalistic information.
|
| |
The proud journalistic ethic that inspired the democratic proletariat press of Benjamin Franklin has caught an uncontrollable "positive profits" virus from the British tabloid press. The virus was brought here by Australian Rupert [FOX] Murdoch capitalizing on the the Reagan deregulation.
News is not supposed to be profitable; its supposed to be nuanced truthfully. True fact-checking and investigative work is quite expensive. In comparison: a lovely person spouting spin is readily affordable. When it comes to information Americans are not getting what we have been paying for.
